The AWP project concerns artists, both disabled and able-bodied who work with people who are socially excluded. The immediate context of the work is the need for academic accreditation of independent artists working in the sector. There has been very substantial growth in art work with people in recent years, especially under the government's rubric of social inclusion. We are concerned especially to develop person-centred planning by independent artists in this context, enabling them both to take leadership roles where appropriate and to contribute to productive dialogue with workers within the institutional nexus. We are concerned also to aid the establishment of this profession as a profession. A key means to the successful conduct of the Project is active networking between people within and across the various sectors contributing to the field.
