Artistic Director's Statement

Triptych examines movement and stillness, presence, space, and time.

Triptych draws on music that spans 1000 years; a first century Greek chant, a 13th century English song, a sixteenth century Italian motet as well as new contemporary music which has been composed for Triptych. Triptych is orchestrated for vocal ensemble, Javanese Gamelan, French Horn, Marimba, and Japanese Shakuhachi, and is designed to use the reverb, acoustics and size of each performance space; the sound is heard all around the audience and building with gong players sometimes playing 20 yards away.
