News ........................................ Summer 2013

Salamanda Tandem has had a busy, fruitful and fascinating 2013 so far; as guest curator of the Fragile? Symposium in Estonia funded by the EU, and as director of the finale performance 'Ad Astra' made for 16 dancers, 90 delegates, string quartet and singer, the Symposium attracted over 100 artists, academics and performers internationally in the field of dance and visual impairment. Coming home Salamanda Tandem brought the work to Northamptonshire and performed 'Ad Astra' at The Water Tower, then was commissioned by Fermynwoods Contemporary Art to develop a new site specific work for Corby called 'Touchstone' the work centred in the beautiful Council Chamber at the heart of Corby Cube and was premiered in July 2013.

We would now like to invite you to join us in September, with 'Quarry-o-sion' our new commissioned piece of sensory art for Wirksworth Festival in a stunning local quarry, and then later in September to come along to our opening performance and solo exhibition of Salamanda Tandem's work at Rufford Craft Centre Gallery, Nottinghamshire

Salamanda Tandem will take you into one of Wirkswirth’s ancient quarries, experimenting with the physical and auditory landscape to alter your perception of what is heard, touched and seen there through an evocative and sensory art experience.
Unfolding over a 4 hour period, visitors are invited to drop in and out, or stay all afternoon to experience the quarry and environs through live performance, audio description, location recording, natural and processed sounds, as well as movement.

Going on behind scenes is the evolution of a series of acousmatic works exploring stone, rock and slate which will be available after this event.
This work is directed by Isabel Jones and Duncan Chapman, who are joined by Indra Slavena, Robbie Fitton Jones, Carly Lake, Chandra Chapman, Geoffrey Fielding and Paddy Fitton Jones in presenting this event.

salamanda tandem's Project 20: 2009 - 2011

A 2-year project touring to Arts Council East Midlands new Capital Buildings

A focus for artists, disabled people, academics, arts, health care, and education professionals to identify the aesthetic and ethical ingredients that define quality in participatory arts and in socially engaged arts practice.

Exploiting Salamanda Tandem's knowledge accumulated over the last 20 years, the company will work with regional partners to develop a series of targeted exhibitions, talks, seminars, training courses, participatory events, site specific performances and publications. These will be presented primarily in our home county of Nottinghamshire, and in the region's new contemporary art buildings, in order to illuminate the benefits that good quality arts practice and positive environments can bring to disabled people.
